Part One: Cleaning The Workplace While Protecting Our Environment

by Compass Cleaning Solutions • May 18, 2016

Over the last several years we have all heard the terms, “Green”, “Environmentally Friendly”, “all Natural” and more recently, “Sustainability”. Have you ever stopped and really asked yourself what those terms mean? We think we know, but my guess is that if we were to ask 100 people to define the terms we would get a wide variety of answers. Underlying all of these terms is, hopefully, the principle that we have a responsibility to protect and preserve the environment in which we live through not only the products we use but the use of these products as well.

Over the next few weeks I would like to focus on the commercial cleaning industry (what I understand best) and address three key areas: The Products we use, the Manufacturing and Shipping Process, and our Cleaning Methods. Commercial cleaning companies have a unique opportunity and I believe, a responsibility, to look at all three elements and take steps to implement, as much as possible, all three in their day to day operations.

Commercial cleaning companies have a unique opportunity to make a huge difference. Because we use products for cleaning everyday of the year we, more than most, see the sheer volume of product being manufactured and used. If we use products that have low or, ideally, no chemical or toxic composition, product packaging that reduces unnecessary material and tools and procedures that require less product in the cleaning process, we can have a tremendous impact for the good on our environment. Today we have options that were not available 10-15 years ago. We can clean buildings and occupied spaces of all sizes effectively and still have the environment at the forefront of our thinking.
